If your company uses Mitel equipment, here’s what you need to know.
On April 24, telecommunications giant Mitel announced it had signed an agreement to be acquired by Searchlight, a global private investment firm with offices in New York, London, and Toronto. The all-cash transaction, valued at approximately $2 billion, is huge news for Mitel’s employees and stockholders. And when everything is said and done, Mitel will be a privately held company, which should allow it to operate with more flexibility as the organization advances its strategy.
That’s all well and good, but the news might leave some Copper State Communications customers who currently use Mitel equipment with questions. For such customers, Copper State CEO Steve Sutton offers his thoughts.
“Searchlight’s acquisition of Mitel is just a proposal at this time,” says Sutton. “So it’s business as usual now, and that will continue to be the case if and when the acquisition concludes. Our commitment to Mitel’s product portfolio, as well as to Mitel’s leadership and team, will all remain intact. There will be no anticipated changes whatsoever for our clients or Mitel partners.”
“We’ve got you covered,” he says. “This is a non-event for businesses that work with Copper State. Regardless of anything else that happens in this industry, we’re your partner, and we’ll continue to provide you with seamless service no matter what. These mergers are fairly common in the tech industry when companies see an opportunity to progress more quickly on their strategy without the constant scrutiny of hitting the quarterly number.”
Mitel’s Board of Directors unanimously approved the acquisition and agreed it’s in the best interests for the company and its shareholders. Subject to customary closing conditions, Searchlight’s acquisition of Mitel is expected to close later this year. And in Sutton’s estimation, it’s shaping up to be a win-win deal.
“As near as we can tell at this time,” he says, “the acquisition is nothing but great news for all clients and partners of Mitel (née ShoreTel).”
This acquisition marks an exciting opportunity for many players in the industry, and it almost certainly won’t be the last big move that happens this year. But Copper State Communications customers can rest easy. No matter what else happens in the IT or telecom industries, we’re committed to you and your business first and foremost. That’s our promise, and you can count on us to deliver on it.
