ShoreTel recently revealed that pre-ShoreTel Connect software (version 14.2 and earlier) will go end-of-life (EoL) in June 2018. That includes products, software updates, and bug fixes, and has implications for your telephony plans. If you aren’t sure of what ShoreTel release your business is using, Copper State Communications can help you figure that out. And if you know you’ve got 14.2 or earlier versions, we’ve put some helpful info below to get you started on what to do next.

What does this mean?

EoL means ShoreTel will no longer provide support to the product. With a few months to go, businesses that use pre-ShoreTel Connect software should get a p

lan in place to migrate to the current software: Mitel MiVoice Connect.

The ShoreTel product line has had many software releases prior to 14.2 — all of which are affected by this EoL date in one way or another. Older releases will be subject to changes in support (many with no support as of June), patches, security updates, and more.

These changes mean that users of 14.2 and older will become vulnerable to hackers and other external threats as cyber criminals attempt to exploit the older versions.

What’s up with the current software?

The system businesses need to migrate to is called Mitel MiVoice Connect because Mitel bought ShoreTel in September 2017, and with that purchase, Mitel took over all ShoreTel product lines and engaged in rebranding and renaming accordingly.

Will ShoreTel 14.2 stop working altogether?

No, the product will continue to work, but if you are running a version that is of a certain age, the manufacturer will not give you a support contract. While it will keep working, you will not be able to get any patches or bug fixes for any issues that crop up.

How do I know what I need to replace?

If you don’t know what kind of hardware you’re working with, Copper State Communications can help. If you have a way to find out what hardware you’re using, ShoreTel has provided this chart to display exactly which products are going EoL and when:

Many businesses will need to address the “full-width SG voice switches except SG-24A” listing, but get in touch with Copper State Communications today to find out exactly what your business is using and how to address it.

We’ll look at your current hardware and software and let you know whether you need an overhaul or more minor adjustments. We’ll make sure that your voice systems are prepared, secure, and ready to work through this latest update.
