Putting the Cloud To Work

The cloud provides a wealth of valuable functions for business users. Actually putting the cloud to work may seem like a daunting task, but it can be as simple as answering one question: inside, outside, or both?

What Does the Cloud Do Inside My Business?

If you’re looking to improve operations within the business, the cloud can offer great value here.

Consolidate information. McKinsey study found that the average professional spends about 19 percent of their time in any given week gathering data. By putting it in one place, that trims down research time and improves productivity.

Improve collaboration. Another 14 percent of time, from that same study, goes to engaging in collaboration back and forth. With cloud systems, it becomes easier to collaborate within a business as several users can share the same document at the same time, and modify it accordingly.

Put new software to work. An AT&T poll found that 46 percent of businesses used productivity tools online. These tools were often updated to have the latest features, and are sometimes available even without licensing fees.

What Does the Cloud Do Outside My Business?

The cloud has an external impact as well.

Improve customer experience. Adopting cloud-based systems allows customers to access data more readily as well.  With more ready access to data, customers spend less time looking around, which means faster answers and a better experience.

Better customer contact. The same systems that improve collaboration internally can be pointed outside the business as well. Customers want easy ways to get in touch with businesses when there are problems or questions regarding products, and cloud systems can be one way to get there.

Disaster preparedness. When a business suffers a disaster, getting back on track is priority one. With cloud-based systems, separate versions of a business can be stored off-site and accessed remotely, allowing work to start sometimes within hours of the disaster.
